Siemens harnesses machine learning for more comprehensive verification
Siemens EDA has launched verification management software that aims to bring together coverage data from multiple sources and overcome challenges facing first silicon sucess as design complexity continues to rise.
Questa Verification IQ (VIQ) uses machine learning to analyze data predict patterns and holes, identify root causes, and suggest solutions for potential issues. It is being launched as first silicon success across verification has fallen to a 20-year low of just 24 per cent, according to a recent study by Wilson Research.
VIQ has primarily been built to harness the output from tools and services across the Siemens portfolio. These include the formal and simulation engines within its Questa platform, OneSpin software, Symphony platform for analog and mixed-signal simulation, and Veloce hardware for emulation and prototyping. It is also fully integrated with the company’s Polarion REQUIRMENTS platform.
However, wider integration is also possible as Siemens Darron May explains: “VIQ supports ALM tools and engines via a standards based approach. It interfaces with ALM tools using Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration (OSLC) so any tool supporting the standard like Doors, next or Siemens Polarion and Teamcenter can be used.
Any engine/tool can be launched by VIQ and again we have support for coverage via the Unified Coverage Interoperability Standard (UCIS). We also have generic extractors that are able to extract data from any tool and post it to VIQ.”
Verification IQ is also fully integrated with popular Continuous Integration (CI) tools such as Jenkins to automate workflows.
Results are delivered over a web-based interface and VIQ has been designed for cloud installation. Initially, Siemens is marketing the software for use on internal clouds reaching multiple potentially geographically spread teams, but with the prospect of wider software-as-a-service access through third party access in future.
