To try to kick start development of internet of things (IoT) chip designs for some companies, intellectual property provider CAST and system IP and design firm SoC Solutions have teamed up to put together pre-integrated platforms, with designs that reach down into the 8bit space.

Nikos Zervas, chief executive officer of CAST, said: “Extending our long partnership with SoC Solutions into customized subsystems for the most in-demand applications is a natural progression.”

Jim Bruister, president of SoC Solutions, claimed: “We can dramatically shorten the distance between a team’s compelling vision for a new connected device and them successfully bringing to market a product that works correctly and beats the competition in performance, power consumption, and cost.”

Rather than focus purely on 32bit processors, CAST and SoC Solutions will offer designs based on a variety of processors, from the 8bit 8051 to the 32bit BA2x family sourced from Beyond Semiconductor.

CAST said it can offer these controllers and processors in off-the-shelf platforms pre-integrated with peripheral and interconnect cores and with drivers and other essential software. Image and video platforms combining processors with the compression cores CAST sources from Alma Technologies are also available and used in platforms such as one for video over IP.
