Last week, our company Carbon Design Systems announced a strategic investment and partnership with Samsung, as we received $4M in investment funding from the technology giant’s investment arm, Samsung Venture Investment Corporation.

Obviously, this is exciting news for us. It will help us accelerate product development and provide access to additional working capital. But I wanted to take a moment to talk about the bigger picture.

Our tools are used by multiple Samsung product groups in the development of many leading-edge consumer devices. We believe that news of Samsung’s investment will now drive the further adoption of virtual prototyping across the board, and we see numerous opportunities for growth in that market.

Of course, the deal will help our company build on its technology leadership. We believe that we already offer a complete virtual prototyping solution capable of as near as you can ever get to 100% accuracy and 100s of MIPS performance. But, in partnership with Samsung, we will now accelerate the development of some key technologies, proving the value of these new elements with one of the biggest players before making them broadly commercially available. We’ll be able to talk about more about this in the coming months.

So, let me leave you with this thought. Whether you ultimately (or perhaps already) do business with us or one of the sector’s other players, advanced design strategies that do not yet include virtual prototyping need to be reviewed. Deals like the one we’ve just secured show clearly that the market is not standing still.
