ARM says it has received test chips designed to check how well an SoC built around a 64bit multicore Cortex v8-A processor complex would work TSMC’s upcoming 10nm FinFET process technology.

Taped out in the fourth quarter of 2015, the test was intended to validate ARM’s design-enablement portfolio of IP, tools, flow, and design methodology for the 10nm process. During the design, benchmarks run by the company on simulations showed the final test chip should deliver power and efficiency gains compared to TSMC’s 16FF+ process.

The latest test chip is the result of ARM and TSMC’s work on process technologies, building on the initial 10FinFET partnership announced in October 2014.
